It is highly adviseable to do a pre-cleanse before fasting. A pre-cleanse is exactly what is says...preparation for cleansing.  We have found that people who ease into a cleanse with a few days of pre-cleansing enjoy the process a lot more and experience better (and more long-lasting) results.

The more processed foods, coffee, alcohol etc you have consumed in the past few years, the more toxins your body has accumulated.  When the body is full of toxins, inflammation occurs and we build up mucus and fat as a survival mechanism.  Jumping into the fast too quickly can cause you to experience stronger detoxification symptoms such as headaches and nausea.  A pre-cleanse is a good way to maximise your success during your fast and ensures you do not detox too quickly.

Before the Cleanse....Do a Pre-Cleanse

A pre-cleanse will help you gear up to the fast and help start the detoxification process.  

A few days before you start, stick to a diet of just fruit and vegetables (these are alkaline-forming) and drink plenty of water.  Make sure that a good amount of the food you have is raw if possible...salads, sprouted foods and a good amount of juices or smoothies.  If you are going to be doing the Candida cleanse, don't eat fruit.  You can also include two Liver Flush Drinks per day which help to start detoxification in the liver.  Have one in the morning and one in the evening (please see recipe below)*.

Avoid heavy proteins, carbohydrates, sugary and highly processed foods as well as coffee, alcohol and soft drinks.

You can do your pre-cleanse before you arrive at The Spa or alternatively arrive a few days before you start your fast and allow yourself time to relax and enjoy pre-cleansing with the food here at our Radiance restaurant.  

Also allow yourself a few days after to correctly break your fast with a diet similar to the pre-cleanse.

The optimal time for a fast including the pre-cleanse and the after-cleanse is 11-14 days.

* Liver Flush Recipe: In a blender add extra virgin olive oil - 2 tablespoons or up to a third of a cup, fresh lemon juice-about 1-2 thirds cup, garlic 3-5 cloves, ginger 1-knob, a pinch of cayenne pepper and top up with freshly squeezed orange juice. Pour into high-ball glass, drink and enjoy.
